UZMAR Launches First New Escort Tug for SMIT Lamnalco Singapore

The UZMAR Shipyard in Turkey recently launched the first of four tugboats under construction for SMIT Lamnalco Singapore. The contract, which was signed in December 2019, includes three new escort tugs and one multipurpose vessel.

The launching ceremony was for the first of the three Robert Allan-designed RAstar 4200 Class Terminal/Escort Tugs. These vessels are specially designed to meet the requirements of worldwide offshore operations, including the ability for up to forty consecutive days of operation. 

Each of the tugs will be 42 meters (138 feet) in length, and shall be able to operate with a bollard pull of 95 tonnes (expected) and speed of 13 knots. The designs are powered by ABC 12 DZC 2900kw@1000 RPM main engines. The vessel will ve classified by Bureau Veritas.

The vessels will provide services for Coral South floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessels in Mozambique. They are expected to start operations in the second quarter of 2022.

 

 

The contract also includes one MPV 4600 Multipurpose Vessel. This tug, designed by OSD IMT Ship Design & Marine Consultancy, will measure 46.2 meters (151 feet) in lengths. The MPV 4600 is powered by ABC 12 DZC 2900kw@1000 RPM main engines and is designed for a service speed of 13.5 knots. This vessel will also be classified by Bureau Veritas. 

UZMAR Shipyard uses an enhanced station-based serial production method at its facility established in Kocaeli, Turkey. In 2020-2021, the company expanded its production capacity by 95 percent with newly equipped building areas.
