Published Apr 4, 2017 10:35 AM by The Maritime Executive

Cyber security threats have increased over the past few years in the maritime industry. Based on the collaboration with DNV GL, Seagull Maritime is now offering a new distance course that can be used by all staff, both seagoing and shore based.

This easy-to-understand course is intended for a wider audience; the material also leverages key safety management practices and shows how they can be applied to cyber security within the maritime and offshore industries. The modules explain in simple steps how and where cyber-attacks may target not only your direct IT infrastructure, but also the embedded software in assorted operational technology (OT) systems on board.

The content of our course and DNV GL’s e-learning modules are based on the following legislation and references

• IMO MSC.1/Circ.1526 Guidelines on Maritime Cyber Risk Management

• "The guidelines on cyber security onboard ships" (BIMCO) STCW Operation and Safety

Learning objective:

The learning objective of this course is to raise awareness of the individual importance attached to cyber security and how you can help protect yourself and your organization against cyber security threats. You will understand the most common cyber threats and be able to recognize and react to such cyber-attacks. It also covers the safe use of devices – such as your smart phone, personal computer and USB sticks and how these devices can be used to gain access to your vessel OT or company infrastructure.

This course is about 1 hour in duration and will give you a course diploma on completion.
