Juergen Kudritzki, CEO of Marorka Iceland, and Dong Jianfu, President of Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute (SMDERI), recently signed a cooperation agreement in Shanghai.

The agreement marks the opening of SMDERI and Marorka’s Energy Management Training Center in Shanghai. The organizations will also work together to promote the application of energy management and operational performance solutions in the Chinese market, to further enhance ship efficiency and to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions. These are essential objectives for improving the core competitiveness of China’s shipbuilding and shipping companies.

The opening ceremony took place on the 2 December 2016. It was attended by dignitaries including Iceland’s former president Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, Iceland’s Ambassador in China, Ragnar Baldursson and delegations from shipping companies.

‘’It is important to raise the awareness of crew on board and operators on shore so that we can align energy management measures and reap the full benefits from advanced on-board tools,’’ said Hou Li Ping, Deputy Managing Director of COSCO Shipping Lines.

The ability to train crews in mainland China is an enormous step towards significant environmental rewards and sizable financial gains for the Chinese shipping industry. Marorka is proud to be cooperating with SMDERI and looks forward to expanding its commercial footprint in China.
