Jamaican High Commissioner-Designate Visits MAJ

The Maritime Authority of Jamaica (MAJ) received a visit from the Jamaican High Commissioner-Designate to the UK as part of a series of meetings being held prior to him taking up his term in office.

Seth Ramocan, Jamaica’s High Commissioner-Designate to the UK, paid a courtesy call to Director General of the MAJ Rear Admiral (Ret’d) Peter Brady, as part of a number of meetings he made with various Ministries, Departments, agencies, and private sector bodies.

The High Commissioner-Designate was briefed on the mandate, roles and functions of the MAJ, as well as the MAJ’s involvement with the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Bertrand Smith, Director of Legal Affairs at the MAJ and Jodi Barrow, Secretary General, Caribbean Memorandum of Understanding (CMoU on Port State Control) also welcomed Mr. Ramocan during the visit. The CMOU Secretariat is hosted by the MAJ at its office in Kingston.

Mr. Ramocan pledged his support to the MAJ as it continues to perform its role in helping to develop Jamaica’s maritime sector, prior to him taking up office in London this month.

Rear Admiral Brady said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr. Ramocan to the MAJ offices. We had a very productive meeting and we were very pleased to have a chance to tell him about all the work we are doing here. We are thankful that he pledged his support for the MAJ and we look forward to working with him closely over the next year.”

Mr. Ramocan, who is an ordained pastor, a former Government senator and former parish councilor, served as Consul General of Jamaica in Toronto from 2009 to 2014.
