Crowley Joins MATES Program at MITAGS-PMI

Crowley Maritime Corporation, a leading U.S. provider of marine transportation and logistics services, is now a member of the Maritime Advancement, Training, Education & Safety (MATES) program at the Maritime Institute of Technology & Graduate Studies – Pacific Maritime Institute (MITAGS-PMI). MITAGS-PMI will provide full-source, one-stop training, upgrade and certification services for all of Crowley’s MMP licensed deck officers.
In making the announcement, MITAGS-PMI Executive Director Glen Paine stated, “We are pleased to welcome Crowley as the newest member company of the MATES Program and look forward to satisfying all of their continuing education needs. The MATES program has many benefits, including consistency and quality of training for all Crowley MMP officers and a significant reduction in costs.”

An added benefit of the MATES program is participation in the MITAGS-PMI Navigation Skills Assessment Program (NSAP®), a risk-based measurement tool that assesses key performance indicators and especially bridge watchkeeping skills. Simulator-based, NSAP® has proven to be the most effective program of its kind in the industry. Its components include bridge resource management, COLREGS, ECDIS and other navigation tools, shiphandling and communication.
