BMT Ship & Coastal Dynamics, a subsidiary of BMT Group, has today announced that its marine navigation and maneuvering simulator, REMBRANDT has been certified by BAW (Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau), on behalf of the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration, Wasser und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes (WSV) in Germany.

The BAW Certification process rigorously tests the hydrodynamic accuracy of the simulator against known ship behaviors, ensuring that the maneuvering characteristics trainees experience on land faithfully represent the real world challenges they will face on water.

Due to a new requirement applicable to inland waterways in Germany, all simulation software and hardware which is used for training purposes for Sea Pilots and Kiel Canal Helmsmen has to be approved and certified.  Paul Morter, Global Sales Manager for REMBRANDT comments: “It’s a fantastic achievement for REMBRANDT to have been awarded this accreditation, and further demonstrates our commitment to clients such as Kiel Canal Pilots who are regular users of the software.

It’s vital that our customers have complete trust in what REMBRANDT can deliver – it’s about ensuring that the knowledge and experience sea pilots accrue from the training and instruction they receive, seamlessly translates into their daily working lives.  Continuous improvement and technology enhancements are crucial to delivering a simulator which is fit for purpose and enhances the value this training aid can offer customers in helping to achieve their operational goals.”

Commenting on this additional certification, Captain André Brueck, Senior Training Supervisor, Kiel Canal Pilots says: “We have been regular users of BMT’s REMBRANDT simulator for many years; this additional certification ensures we can continue using REMBRANDT as part of our ongoing pilot training program.”
