Moose Boats Awarded New Contract

Moose Boats, a boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, has been awarded a contract from Bellingham Fire Department in Washington State for the construction of a M2-38 Catamaran CBRN Emergency Response and Recovery Vessel. 

The M2-38 aluminum catamaran will be powered by twin Cummins QSB6.7 425hp turbo diesel propulsion engines coupled to Hamilton HJ292 water-jets via TwinDisc 5075SC marine transmissions. The M2 will be equipped with dual Hale 1,000GPM rated fire pumps, an on-board foam storage tank, dual monitors, 5” Storz discharges fore and aft for supply to land-based apparatus, multi-threat detection equipment and CBRN positive pressure cabin air filtration.

The vessel will be capable of pumping fire fighting water at a rate in excess of 2,750 gallons per minute of while maintaining full maneuverability from both propulsion engines and jets. The dual pumping arrangement offers complete pumping redundancy should one pump become disabled.

The navigation and electronics suite is comprised of Furuno NavNet3D, L3 Secure Maritime AIS, ICOM, Motorola and Firecom Communications and FLIR Thermal Imaging equipment. A heavy-duty push knee will enable the M2-38 to come in contact with larger vessels and piers while the custom bow ladder will allow for firefighters to disembark in beach landing scenarios. 

The Moose Boats M2-38 will be responsible for fire fighting, EMS and emergency response within Squalicum Harbor and on Bellingham Bay. Bellingham Fire Department utilized a Fiscal Year 2013 Port Security Grant Program award to purchase the Moose Boats M2-38, with matching funds provided by the Port of Bellingham and the City of Bellingham. The City of Bellingham procured the vessel from Moose Boats under GSA contract via a Schedule 84 cooperative purchasing clause.

Moose Boats has constructed numerous fire fighting vessels for agencies throughout the United States including Richmond Fire Department, Tiburon Fire Rescue District, San Francisco Fire Department and Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation and Conservation District in California, Old Saybrook Fire Department in Connecticut, Lewes Fire Department in Delaware, Anne Arundel County in Maryland, Massport Fire Rescue at Boston Logan Airport and Sandwich Fire Rescue in Massachusetts, Northport Fire Department in New York, New Jersey State Police, North Kingstown Fire Rescue in Rhode Island and West Pierce Fire Rescue in Washington.
