MARIS ECDIS Marks 30-Unit Deal in Turkey

A strong run of orders for MARIS has culminated in a 30-system deal covering the delivery of its ECDIS900 system to Turkish customers.

The deal highlights the longstanding relationship between MARIS and well-known marine electronics distribution and service specialist STT International Ltd. It covers existing and future STT requirements to deliver MARIS ECDIS900 to Turkish owners and shipyards. STT reports that the first systems are committed to general cargo vessel newbuildings due delivery to Yildirim Group from the Marmara Shipyard before the end of 2013.

“Securing this contract immediately prior to Exposhipping-Europort 2013, Istanbul (March 20-23, 2013)  is a timely reward for the work MARIS and our distribution partner STT International have been putting into building business in Turkey,” says Ralf Pluch, MARIS Director Sales Europe. “As mandatory ECDIS is phased in, we are especially delighted to have secured an order with our partner that signals our strength in both newbuilding and retrofit in this key regional market for owners and yards.”

John Angehrn, General Manager (London), STT International Limited says MARIS systems will be installed by affiliated company STT Deniz Ticaret ve Servis Ltd, based in the Tuzla shipbuilding area. “Our factory trained technicians provide full service and support as part of the MARIS worldwide service network,” says Mr Angerhn.

“The MARIS900 has proved itself to be a reliable choice for ECDIS users and STT has installed 50 plus systems to date.” he says. “Istanbul’s role as a crossroads in world shipping makes it an ideal destination to retrofit a proven system, a factor that has been central to placing this order.”

Mr Angerhn says the MARIS ECDIS900 has been establishing a reputation for reliability in the Turkish marine market, which is characterised by the high priority placed on word-of-mouth recommendations.

The deal crowns a series of orders for MARIS in early 2013, which include a fleet agreement with an undisclosed major shipowner for a range of MARIS products, plus a contract to supply MARIS ECDIS900 Seismic software for a series of state of the art Seismic Exploration Vessels. Other recent contracts have come from Høegh Fleet Services (using MARIS as a one stop shop for ECDIS, charts, Voyage Decision Support System and the online reporting system LOG4000),  and The Norwegian Coastal Administration (for PilotMate ECDIS PCs).

MARIS is also extending its geographic reach into Russia. Meanwhile, the company has appointed Rubens Patené & Schellmann Ltda as its new distributor in Brazil to prepare for the expected growth in the Brazilian shipping industry, mainly in the offshore supply vessel market.
