An All Time High for Norwegian Electric Systems

Published Dec 10, 2014 3:29 PM by The Maritime Executive

Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) recently signed a new contract, order value 35 mill NOK, for the supply of complete electric system for 2 new ICE breakers, type HD843 ICE. The vessel will be built at Havyard Shipyard in Leirvik, Norway. The ship will have DNV ice class Icebreaker Ice 10 and Winterized Cold (-30o C) which means that the ship can break more than 1 meter thick ice and has a system to avoid icing. NES has previously signed for the delivery of the propulsion system to another icebreaker, hull no. 122 owned by FEMCO, which will be ready for handover Q4 2015.

Norwegian Electric Systems is a global leader within system integration of diesel electric and hybrid electric propulsion systems. Their products have proven to be reliable, flexible as well as fuel saving with great vessel dynamics.

NES celebrated its 5th anniversary this summer, and has, during this period, commissioned 30 vessels worldwide with NES equipment installed. During these 5 years NES has developed new products and strengthened its position globally with world leading technology. One of the new developments is the QUEST (Quadro Energy Storage Technology) which will, with this system installed, contribute to more fuel savings, significant NOx and C02 reductions and less demand for running multiple diesel gensets. NES has also a number of products in the “pipeline” within R&D which will be launched 1st half of 2015.

A market which has increased their position strongly is the jack-up market in the Middle-East, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Jan Berg says that the reason for this success is due to NES` good technical solutions for this kind of vessels combined with highly competent personnel.

Jan Berg, CEO & president at NES, says that he is positive for the future, despite the tough market, and that NES has a strong order back log; 400 mill NOK in December for delivery in 2015 and 2016.
