Ambrey Risk Awarded UK's City & Guilds' Centre Status

The maritime security leader aims to set new training standards.

World renowned maritime security specialist, Ambrey Risk, based in Hereford UK, has announced that the company has been awarded the United Kingdom’s City & Guilds' Centre Status in February 2013. The company is also expanding its industry-leading training programme with the appointment of Mick Clifford OBE as Training Director and risk mitigation expert Ian Kelly as Training Manager. Together these two much sought-after security training experts head an even more comprehensive training department offering a multitude of different courses in addition to Ambrey’s current and well-respected maritime security officer training options.

Ambrey Risk offers a wide range of security training solutions including maritime and land based security courses that lead the global industry standards in design, delivery and professional development. The company has conducted a comprehensive Training Needs Analysis (TNA) of all courses in conjunction with identifying the key Operational Performance Standards (OPS), this essential background work has led to the company being awarded the United Kingdom’s City & Guilds' Centre Status in February 2013.

The company’s new recruitment and training opportunities include enhanced maritime and land-based training, courses concentrating specifically on security/risk mitigation management, security surveying, Close Protection, health and safety training, teaching qualifications and medical training courses. As well as being accredited by City and Guilds and MCA, each will be compliant with International Land and Maritime Law and Conventions including the International Voluntary Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers, UNCLOS, SUA and SOLAS and the ISPS code to meet international training course standards. The company will also offer bespoke training packages for corporate and private clients with specific personnel training requirements. Ambrey’s training department will start their new portfolio of courses in June 2013.

Along with City & Guilds' Centre status, Ambrey Risk is pleased to offer its first set of Maritime Coastguard Agency accredited courses also: SSO (Ships Security Officer) and all four modules of the STCW95 courses (Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping).  The SSO course will be held at Ambrey’s Hereford offices on 6 – 8 March 2013 and the STCW95 course will be held in Hereford and at the Babcock Fire and Rescue Centre in Avonmouth on 11 – 15 March.

Training Director, Mick Clifford OBE, is working with the City & Guilds to create a national standard for training MSOs (Marine Security Operatives), his unrivalled reputation in this area, together with extensive experience at the forefront of the selection and training of the officers and soldiers of the Special Air Service, enable Ambrey Risk to say with confidence that to be ‘Ambrey trained’ is synonymous with being trained to the highest standards of maritime and land-based security excellence.

Ian Kelly, Ambrey’s new Training Manager, also has an extensive background in specialist training and risk mitigation services. In total Ian completed 24 years military service with the Parachute Regiment and the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS). In addition to his SAS operational experience, Ian spent nine years in various training and training management positions including Counter Terrorism instruction and preparing individuals and teams to operate in diverse challenging hostile environments. While with G4S Ian won several awards and brings considerable military and commercial experience to Ambrey’s newly expanded training department.
