3Sun Academy on the Horizon

Published Jan 27, 2014 1:24 PM by The Maritime Executive

Specialist provider of products and services to the global energy industry 3sun Group has announced the rebranding of its skills development division Eastern Training Services (ETS) to 3sun Academy.

Purchased by 3sun Group two years ago, ETS is an Approved Centre for the delivery of ECITB vocational qualifications. Since 1997 ETS has offered technical training, vocational assessment and verification, industrial, health & safety courses, as well as supervisory management and bespoke courses, with the aim of enhancing client safety and operational performance.

To meet increasing demand for its training services, and in response to the growth of wider 3sun Group, 3sun Academy has relocated its head office to Great Yarmouth.

James Hall, Operations Manager for 3sun Academy said: “The 3sun Academy adds a new dimension to the Group’s capabilities and client offering. As the specialist training arm of 3sun Group, we deliver technical and vocational training to the energy, and engineering construction industries.

“We recognise the current skills shortage in the energy sector, and understand that the success of any business is dependent on having the right people with the right skills. Our training courses offer clients the opportunity to up-skill or re-train employees from other industries, or to enhance the skills within their current workforce. This brings major benefits for energy businesses by creating a robust and sustainable workforce for the future.”

3sun Academy tutors and lecturers are qualified practitioners in their areas of expertise and have many years’ experience in the design and delivery of training. From one-day courses on a diverse range of topics, to the ECITB-accredited Client Contractor National Safety Group (CCNSG) ‘passport’ that represents a nationwide health & safety standard for site contractors, 3sun Academy work with clients to identify skills deficits and provide relevant training to address them.

With training hubs across the UK and Europe, courses can be offered at specialist 3sun facilities or at client premises. Tapping into the experience and expertise of the wider 3sun Group also adds a new depth and flexibility to training capabilities.

The Group employs over 200 staff offshore and onshore and is currently working on oil and gas and renewables projects in the UK and Europe.

Headquartered in Great Yarmouth, England, it has a base in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and has seen recent expansion internationally following the creation of bases in Bergen, Norway and in Esbjerg, Denmark. It is also currently looking at other UK and overseas locations.
