More Than 100 Feared Dead in Bangladesh Shipwreck

Local police confirmed that over 100 people, mainly refugees from Myanmar, are missing after the vessel, on which they were illegally traveling on, sank off the coast of Bangladesh.

The shipwreck occurred Sunday morning and only six passengers survived.

According to the police inspector of the southeastern Bangladeshi town of Teknaf, between 100 and 130 people were traveling on a small fishing boat. Some of the passengers were Bangladeshis;they were heading to Thailand.

Officials that reported to the scene stated that the boat split apart and passengers fell into the water in an area between Bangladesh and Myanmar. Local fisherman spotted the six survivors and rescued them.
