The 250m (820-foot), 4,500 TEU container ship Hanjin Aqua has run aground off Sangiang Island in Indonesia.

The ship was en route from Australia to Jakarta, carrying 2,303 TEU on board, including hazardous cargo class A, reports local media.

During its passage through the Sunda Strait between Sumatra and Java, the ship grounded on rocks which breached the hull, causing multiple ballast compartments to flood.

The coast guard is assisting the vessel which is currently not in danger of capsizing or sinking. Hanjin Shipping has reported that there were no injuries or pollution, and salvage operations are underway.
