Coast Guard Medevacs Man From Cruise Ship

The U.S. Coast Guard reports that a 46-year-old man had to be medically evacuated from the Holland America ship, Ryndam, after falling. The ship was 120-miles southwest of St. Petersburg, FL at the time of the incident.

On Saturday around 5:15 p.m., crew onboard the cruise ship contacted the St. Petersburg, FL coast guard command center. The crew reported that Andrew Spicer, had fallen aboard the ship and was in need of medical evacuation for further treatment.

The coast guard center launched its HH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter from the Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater around 7:05 and arrived at the Ryndam around 8:00. The man was successfully evacuated and taken to Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL.

The severity and current condition of Spicer’s injuries is unknown.
