Semi-submersible drilling rig, Scarabeo 5, caught fire this morning while at Keppel Verolme yard in the Netherlands. The fire is believed to have been sparked by a gas leak.

Three workers have reportedly been injured in the accident, sustaining burns and suffering from smoke inhalation. The other nine workers onboard at the time of the blaze are all accounted for and unharmed. The rig was in drydock while undergoing special survey works.

The rig crew managed to gain control of the fire, and work was ongoing below deck to find the source of the problem, with fire services, police and a rescue helicopter deployed at the scene.

The vessel, owned by Saipem, is chartered by Statoil for the North Sea drilling.
