The accident took place in Kure shipyard of IHI Marine United in Japan. The four workers were helping construct a 90,000 ton container ship for a German client.

The 20-by-20-by 5 meter steel section of the outer hull was being welded on by the four workers, when the scaffolding suddenly collapsed with the 246-ton steel section.

Japanese police are investigating to see whether it was negligence or the windy conditions that caused the accident.
