•   The firmware 2.1 for the Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controller uses new functions of the Engineering Framework TIA Portal V14 SP1

•   New fail-safe technology CPUs with extended scope of motion control functionalities

•   Harmonized package of controller and servo drive system for mid-range motion control applications

•   New power supply module for maximum data remanence in the event of power failures

The new firmware 2.1 for the Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controller from Siemens now allows the user to use the new functions of the Engineering Framework TIA Portal V14 SP1. These include openness to other systems, such as the standardized, bi-directional exchange of engineering data via AutomationML (Automation Markup Language) with Eplan engineering software, the TIA Selection Tool or other CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) tools.

The two fail-safe 1511TF-1 PN and 1515TF-2 PN technology CPUs are new additions to the portfolio of the Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controller. The fail-safe Simatic S7-1500 T-CPUs from Siemens combine extended motion control functionalities, such as gearing and camming, with safety-related applications in a single device. Together with the already existing, fail-safe 1517TF-3 PN/DP T-CPU, which is used for more complex applications, they complete the portfolio of technology CPUs. The Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controller has a functionally and fully scalable portfolio available to the user for standard, safety and motion control tasks.

The Simatic S7-1500 T-CPUs are specifically matched with Sinamics V90 PN and Sinamics S210 servo drive systems for mid-range motion control applications: The new Sinamics S210 servo drive system is available in five performance classes ranging from 50 to 750 watts. The many possible motion control applications focus on dynamic movement and processing – such as positioning, conveying and winding. The fully scalable motion control solutions can be implemented efficiently in the Engineering Framework TIA Portal with technology objects, integrated diagnostics and detailed error detection.

The new PS 60W 24/48/60 V DC HF power supply module for the Simatic S7-1500 Advanced Controller buffers the energy in the event of power failures. Without a battery and therefore maintenance-free, the new power supply module offers full data remanence of up to 20 megabytes for the CPUs. It feeds directly into the backplane bus and supports the integrated diagnostic modules of the S7-1500 system – for standard, safety and motion control applications. This speeds up the restart of machines and plants, as the data is still there when the power returns, and the parameters do not need to be reset. The new power supply module now also allows production applications for which the Simatic S7-400 was previously used to be converted to up-to-date Simatic S7-1500 technology with no limitation of the remanence behavior.
