The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) announced today that Richard (Dick) Coleman, retired President of ContainerPort Group, will be honored with the 2013 IANA Silver Kingpin Award at this year’s Intermodal Expo in Houston, Texas. Coleman will receive his award during the Opening General Session on November 18 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

The Silver Kingpin Award has been presented annually since 1977 and is considered the intermodal industry’s most prestigious honor. Given to individuals for their significant, long-term contributions to intermodalism, Coleman was chosen for his exemplary industry leadership throughout his career, spanning over 40 years.

Coleman devoted 40 years of his professional career to advancing intermodalism, 25 of which were spent as President of ContainerPort Group (CPG). In this capacity, he led the expansion of CPG from 138 people to the over 1,000 employee organization it is today. CPG is among the leading intermodal service providers in the United States and operates 18 terminals in the Midwest, Northeast, and Southwest.

“Dick has been instrumental not only in growing CPG, but in building the intermodal industry as a whole. His dedication to improving intermodal transportation’s quality and efficiency is truly commendable,” said Phil Shook, Chairman of IANA. “Dick’s reputation for fairness and integrity is second to none.”

A founding member of IANA, Coleman served several terms on IANA’s Board of Directors during which time he was also elected the Association’s Treasurer. His service to the transportation industry also included membership in several IANA committees and task forces and a leadership role as chairman of the American Trucking Associations Intermodal Conference. Coleman’s dedication to educating future industry executives is exemplified by his sponsorship of multiple students for the Masters program at the University of Denver’s Intermodal Transportation Institute, where he serves on the Board of Directors.
