Cruise Ship Pulls Water Skier at the Port of Alicante

The AIDAbella cruise liner has made the Guinness book of records by becoming the largest boat in the world ever to tow a water skier.

The boat towed the water skier, Jan Schwiderek, a German TV presenter, for six minutes and 25 seconds in Alicante bay. The record was set on Saturday, October 2, when the boat docked in Alicante after crossing from Palma de Mallorca.

According to the company, the water skier works for the German TV program “ProSieben Galileo” and was pulled along at a speed of 14 knots.

In order to accomplish the record, Schwiderek first got up speed backside a launch before grabbing the cable from the Aidabella.

A movie crew from “ProSieben Galileo” recorded the stunt ready to broadcast in their program on October 24th.

The cruise liner, which belongs to the German company Aida Cruises, was built in 2000, has a cruising speed of 22 knots, is 251.89 metres long, 32.20 metres wide and can carry 69,203 toones, with 2,210 passengers and 598 crew members.
