Hurricane Sandy Causes Tanker to Run Aground Onto a Staten Island Street [VIDEO]
The massive storm surges caused by Hurricane Sandy resulted in a 168-foot tanker to run aground in Staten Island, New York last night.
The front third of the tanker is grounded into Front Street. The ship was moored about a mile away when Sandy’s powerful force propelled it toward land, reports ABC News. No one was aboard the tanker and no one was hurt as a result of it running aground.
The city’s waterfront – including numerous businesses – has been essentially demolished. As the “Frankenstorm” barreled down on the East Coast last night, millions were left without electricity; the area is suffering from destructive flooding and other devastating damages.
