Italy Chooses Port for Concordia's Final Call
The Italian government has approved a plan to move the stricken Costa Concordia cruise ship to the closest port, where it will be disassembled. The chosen port is Tuscany’s Piombino.
Tuscan officials welcomed today’s decision. It is agreed upon that Piombino is the most environmentally sound and economical choice due to the port’s proximity to the infamous shipwreck.
However, lawmakers noted that this recent decision may delay the removal of the wreck, possibly until 2014, due to necessary port upgrades.
According to the Associated Press, Italy's civil protection agency is looking at September as the likely date to move the wreck.
