Cyclone Shuts Down Shipping in Port Hedland
Carlos, a category 2 Tropical Cyclone passed Port Hedland Tuesday morning, closing the port to shipping. The Australian port is one of the world’s largest iron ore terminals.
On Monday night everything in the port was shut down.
The storm is expected to move westward along the coast and strengthen in the coming days. Officials expect the port to reopen soon, following an inspection by the harbor master.
Apache, Chevron and Woodside also suspended operations in some oil and gas fields while the storm moves through.
