Preservation of 1936 U.S. Coast Guard Cutter INGHAM Begins

On the anniversary of the founding of the Coast Guard, Patriots Point on Charleston Harbor announced preservation work on the cutter which is the oldest vessel in its ship collection.
The Coast Guard cutter INGHAM was launched in June of 1936 and is one of only two Treasury Class cutters from that era remaining.
The maritime museum announced Monday the Ingham will get a rust treatment and a new coat of paint with the work to be finished next month. The work will cost about $110,000.
The Coast Guard was founded on Aug. 4, 1790.
Besides the INGHAM, the Patriots Point collection includes the aircraft carrier YORKTOWN, the submarine CLAMAGORE and the destroyer LAFFEY.
