Ship Breaking Workers Killed in Gas Cylinder Blast

Three workers at a ship breaking yard were killed in an accident in Chittagong on December 3rd.

According to sources, the three workers were cutting a scrap ship by gas at Sagorika Ship Breaking Yard at Madambibir Hat. The workers were dismantling the ship in an enclosed section of the ship, when they were overcome by toxic gases emitted from gas cylinder.

Another work was killed in the same shipyard last year. Deaths while ship breaking is a common occurrence.
