Authorities Investigate Death Onboard Cruise Ship

Published Jan 27, 2011 8:11 AM by The Maritime Executive

On Tuesday, November 16 the Carnival Liberty was enroute from South Florida to St. Thomas for a seven day cruise, when a passenger discovered a 36-year-old woman unconscious in her cabin.

Emergency medical services onboard responded but pronounced the woman dead two hours after she was discovered. The FBI is conducting a full investigation and will know what type of case they have when the autopsy report is completed.

A Carnival spokesperson has said that evidence suggests the death was due to medical complications, however this has yet to be confirmed.

Also a passenger onboard the ship reported to www.cruisejunkie.com's blog that the deceased woman had suspicious bruises on her face.

It appears Carnival has had to deal with more deaths onboard their ships this year than any of the other cruise lines. Nine of the thirteen deaths reported by www.cruiseburise.com, whose listing includes cruise lines from around the world, were onboard Carnival ships.
