Rolls-Royce to Supply Equipment for Bourbon Offshore AHTS

Published Apr 8, 2014 10:41 AM by The Maritime Executive

Rolls-Royce is to deliver deck machinery and engines to an arctic Anchor Handling Tug Supply vessel (AHTS) to be built by Vard for Bourbon Offshore Norway. The contract has a value in excess of £17M for Rolls-Royce.

The deck machinery delivery from Rolls-Royce will consist of anchor handling winches, secondary winches, auxiliary winches, anchor handling cranes and a wide range of safer deck operation equipment. The engine delivery consists of two main engines and three main generator engines. AHTS vessels are built to handle anchors for oil rigs and perform rig moves. They also serve as supply vessels to and from offshore drilling rigs and this vessel will have the capability to serve in emergency rescue and recovery operations.

John Knudsen, Rolls-Royce, President Offshore, said: “Bourbon Offshore has chosen power and volume on both anchor handling winches and secondary winches. This means that the vessel will be in the top class for winch capacities compared to all AHTS vessels built to date.”

Rolls-Royce will also deliver all mechanical, hydraulic and electric components needed for the deck machinery equipment. The deck machinery package is developed in close cooperation with the yard and owner, who thereby have chosen a ‘one-stop-shop’ solution from Rolls-Royce.

The arctic AHTS vessel, is designed by Vard Design, has been developed for world-wide anchor handling and remote operations with a total length of 93.6 meters, a beam of 24 meters and a bollard pull of approximately 270 ton. The vessel is arranged for ROV (Remote Operating Vehicle) and superior anchor-handling capabilities are among its advanced features.

The vessel will be operated by Bourbon Offshore Norway and is scheduled for delivery from Vard Brattvaag in Norway in the first quarter of 2016. The hull of the vessel will be delivered from Vard Tulcea in Romania.

• 2 x B32:40V12PCD main engines

• 3 x C25:33L9ACD main generator engines

• BRH Winch

• Stern roller
