Seaspan ULC (Seaspan) today released the following statement in response to the Government of Canada’s decision to award the interim Auxiliary Oil Replenishment (AOR) sole-source contract to Davie Shipyard:

“We are disappointed by the Government of Canada’s decision, yet we certainly understand the Royal Canadian Navy’s need to find an interim solution for its fleet oilers,” said Jonathan Whitworth, CEO, Seaspan.

“Although Seaspan was prepared to offer an interim AOR capability solution at our Victoria Shipyards, we are pleased to hear that Canada has reaffirmed its commitment to building the Joint Support Ship (JSS) program at Vancouver Shipyards.”

“In the meantime, Seaspan is working side-by-side with the Canadian Coast Guard to build the first of its new vessels - the Offshore Fisheries Science Vessel (OFSV). Construction is well underway and we are currently manufacturing 15 of 37 blocks of the OFSV at our state-of-the-art, purpose-build facility in North Vancouver, on-time and on-budget.”
