Brunswick Commercial Builds Fleet for MSRC
Brunswick Commercial & Government Products (BCGP) has designed a mission-specific boat for the Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC). The specialized 650 IMPACT RHIBs are engineered to fit aboard MSRC Responder Class Oil Spill Response Vessels (OSRVs) and will act as a support boat for oil recovery operations. Each of MSRC's 15 OSRVs will be outfitted with two of the 650 IMPACT boats.
Powered by a Volvo Penta D3-170hp inboard diesel engine, this configuration of the 650 IMPACT has Volvo Penta SX outdrive with jackshaft kit to allow for the engine to be installed forward underneath the console.
The fleet of custom 650 IMPACT RHIBs is capable of speeds up to 40 mph and is equipped with robust lift fittings and slings designed to integrate with the existing MSRC ship hoist and davit system.
"Because of our custom boat building capabilities, we were able to customize the boat to fit MSRC's existing onboard lifting system, which was a huge benefit to the customer because no modifications to their ships systems were required," said BCGP Director of Engineering Keith Ranieri.
MSRC has already taken delivery of 10 units, and will accept 20 more this year.
Claude Kestner, MSRC marine engineer, stated: "MSRC is pleased to have selected Brunswick to build its new RHIBS. Brunswick has worked with us to develop a boat that meets our operational needs, quality standards and at a competitive cost."
