2010 World Maritime Day Observance
Challenges for International Shipping and the Year of the Seafarer
The timing for this event in Vancouver is to take advantage of a joint meeting of major global shipping interests: OCIMF, ITOPF and INTERTANKO. The North American Marine Environment Protection Association (NAMEPA) will be joining them to produce this World Maritime Day Observance.
NAMEPA has been promoting World Maritime Day in North America for the past five years, and have engaged in a dialog with both Canada and the United States (Transport Canada and the United States Coast Guard) with the intent to alternate between the two countries and the coasts. It seemed obvious to us that Vancouver would be the perfect location for the 2010 observance. The synergies with the other organizations was an added benefit, and both Transport Canada and the USCG agreed.
