Russian Ship Rams into Rocks in the Sea of Japan

The Russian dredging vessel ANABAR smashed into rocks off the Sakhalin coast in the Sea of Japan, late Tuesday.

The ships crew was trapped onboard and one was reported missing after the incident. Rescuers evacuated the crew of 17, Wednesday, and continue to search for the missing sailor.

Anabar set out form the port of Yakutsk on August 1st, navigated down the River Lena and along the Northern Sea Route to help lay a gas pipeline across the Nevelsky Strait, which separates Sakhalin from the mainland.

The Anabar dredger has about 100 tons of oil products on board, however, officials report no leak at this time.
