About the Author, Priscilla Travis

A retired college Communication professor, she holds a U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Master’s license, first issued in 1986.  When not enjoying the cruising lifestyle or maintaining her boat, she lives in Chestner, Maryland, teaches sailing to adults, takes continuing education courses and workshops for professional captains, and enjoys land travel.  Travis is a member of the Ocean Cruising Club, the Seven Seas Cruising Association, and the Chesapeake Area Professional Captains Association.  She has written several articles for DIY Boatowner magazine.  Logging over 85,000 miles at sea, Travis has been sailing on yachts for more than 35 years.
