• Greece: Afghan Migrants Drown Off Greek Isle
Oct 27, 2009 — A boat carrying 19 Afghan migrants sank near the Greek island of Lesvos on Tuesday morning killing eight, including 3 women and 5 children. The vessel had come from Turkey.

• Japan: Japanese Warship Collides with S. Korean Ship
Oct 27, 2009 — There was a mid-sea accident in the Kanmon Strait Tuesday when the Japanese destroyer Kurama collided with the South Korean container ship Carina Star. Both ships caught fire. It is not clear how extensive the damage is to either ship. At least three naval sailors are reported to have been slightly injured during firefighting duties.

• South Africa: Two Sailors Found Dead, Two Hospitalized in South Africa
Oct 27, 2009 — Two members of a Russian-Ukrainian crew aboard the Maltese-flagged cargo ship the Atlantic Eland, have died while in port in South Africa. According to conflicting reports, the dead sailors are either both Russian, or one is Russian and one is Ukrainian. Two other sailors have also been hospitalized. Exactly what happened to the sailors is not clear, it is suspected that "poisoning" or "food poisoning" is at fault.

• Somalia: Somali Pirates Say They Have British Couple
Oct 27, 2009 — Four days ago a British couple and their sailboat went missing in the Indian Ocean between the Seychelles and the east coast of Africa. Now The Times has learned that Somali pirates in Haradheere say they seized the couple. Several international warships have been looking for the 38ft yacht the Lynn Rival since its emergency beacon went off last week.

• Guatemala: Semi-Submersible Drug Sub Busted Off Guatemala
Oct 23, 2009 — The U.S. and Guatemalan militaries were involved Wednesday in the seizure of a homemade, semi-submersible drug smuggling vessel off Guatemala's Pacific coast. Three Colombians and a Mexican were detained, and more than 10 tons of cocaine was confiscated.
