MARITIME WEEK AMERICAS: Coping with Turmoil Preparing for the Revolution
Maritime Week Americas – one of the most exciting maritime events on the calendar – returns to South Beach in June to try to make sense of the chaos that has been visited upon the shipping, oil and bunker markets over the past year and to attempt to identify the clearest way forward.
A week-long programme of highly-focused conferences, seminars and training courses, an exhibition, a specially-arranged port visit and a range of other business and social activities, will this year highlight two of the fastest-changing and most controversial sectors of shipping: Marine Fuels and Port & Port Hinterland Security.
While the turmoil related to credit and financial issues will be fully analyzed in the conference, seminar and course sessions, there will also be ample opportunity to see the technical and commercial developments, particularly in bunkering, that may change the industry forever.
This year’s event will draw together the many strands of the bunker and maritime security industries, locally, regionally and globally, and will offer invaluable access to some of the most highly-respected specialists in their fields. Shipping, port and maritime security, bunkering and a range of related areas – including credit risk, environmental issues, technical developments and operational problems, and important legal and commercial aspects – will be closely examined by the leading experts.
According to conference director Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes, "Maritime Week Americas will explore a wide range of key issues, but two areas in particular stand out; a major session and associated workshop on the case for stamping out quality cheating by installing specialised bunker meters; and the hugely topical port security seminar".
Highlights of the week include:
• Shipping and Marine Fuels Conference
• Port & Port Hinterland Security Seminar
• Managing Credit Risk Seminar
• IBIA Advanced Technical & Operations Course
• IBIA Basic Bunkering Course
• IBIA Americas Regional Meeting
• Field trip to the Port of Miami
• Exhibition
Exhibition (Tuesday 2 – Thursday 4 June 2009)
A table top exhibition will be open during Maritime Week Americas, allowing delegates to meet face to face with providers of the latest maritime products and services. Access is available only to bona fide delegates and only on those days for which they have registered.
The introductory and advanced bunkering courses are complemented by Nigel Draffin’s best-selling book, An Introduction to Bunkering, available in both English and Spanish, and his brand new book An Introduction to Fuel Analysis, which will be launched at the event.
Maritime Week Americas is expected to attract a large audience from over 30 countries, comprising shipowners and managers, bunker suppliers and traders, oil companies, port authorities, government agencies and a wide range of maritime and security professionals.
