Hyde Marine To Showcase Hyde Guardian Ballast Water Management and Superflow Filters At Nor-Shipping

Hyde Marine, Inc. will showcase the full range of Hyde GUARDIAN® Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) Systems at Nor-Shipping, May 24-27, 2011, in Oslo, Norway.  A skid-mounted Hyde GUARDIAN suitable for small research vessels and ferries, as well as the new Superflow filter, which is part of Hyde’s BWT solution for the world’s largest bulk cargo and tanker vessels, will be featured on Hyde Marine stand E04-41.

The chemical free Hyde GUARDIAN treatment process uses filtration and ultraviolet disinfection, scaled according to required capacity, to treat ships' ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive species from port to port. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Type Approved Hyde GUARDIAN systems offer a compact, modular design, with low power consumption, low-pressure drop, and simple, fully automatic operation. These advantages make it a technically attractive and cost-effective solution for any type of vessel.

The Hyde Superflow filter modules are based on the proven-efficient, auto-back flushing, stacked disk filtration technology found in lower capacity Hyde GUARDIAN models. Superflow filters are available in three sizes with capacity ranging from 500 m3/hr to 900 m3/hr per module.  The modules are installed in filter trains and operated in parallel to meet the ballast flow requirements. The SF70 design has recently been delivered to South Korean shipyard DSME for installation on the first of ten Suezmax crude oil tankers being built for Greek ship owner Almi Tankers S.A. Each of the 157,000 DWT tankers will have eight Superflow Filters to process 5,000 m3/hr during ballasting.

The Hyde GUARDIAN unit received IMO Type Approval in April 2009 and was the first BWT System accepted into the U.S. Coast Guard’s Shipboard Technology Evaluation Program (STEP).  Calgon Carbon’s UV Technology Division and Hyde Marine also recently received ISO 9001:2008 accreditation from the registrar Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the ANAB National Accreditation Board in 2010.
