Holland America Line confirms that one of their passengers, a 75-year-old man declared missing by his wife, has been found dead after docking in Charlottetown, Canada.

According to a press release issued by Holland America, the body of a Maaasdam passenger was pulled from the Northumberland Strait by local lobster fisherman near Prince Edward Island.  The man’s body was brought ashore where he was declared deceased by authorities.  An investigation is being launched to discover how the man ended up in the water, and an autopsy has been ordered.

The man’s wife had declared her husband missing at approximately 8:12 am on October 4th, according to Canada’s CBC News.

Holland America issued a statement stressing that their company operates a comprehensive program to ensure the safety and security of guests and personnel alike, and that the safety of their guests is their top priority as they continue to work closely with authorities regarding the incident.  They added their thoughts and prayers are with the passenger’s family and friends during this time.

The Maasdam departed from Montreal on October 1st for a 7-day cruise from Canada to New England.
