GMATS Security Seminars: Piracy Countermeasures

The Global Maritime and Transportation School (GMATS) located at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York is a global institutional leader in providing world-class, professional mariner education and training in accordance with the provisions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and other national and international standards, laws, and regulations relating to the training and certification of seafarers. Our courses cover programs from complex maritime and inter-modal transportation logistics systems to the latest requirements in transportation security.
In line with our curriculum and mission we present the first in a series of seminars with a concentration in maritime security. A Two-Day Piracy Countermeasures Seminar to be held June 24 and 25, 2009 is designed to provide knowledge to successfully understand, identify, countermeasure and defeat the threat of piracy attacks resulting in the hijacking of commercial vessels and the ransom of their crews. You will learn how to effectively research and mitigate the threat of piracy attack and if boarded and captured how best to survive the outcome of the ransom process. It includes a Hostage Survival Exercise utilizing the CAORF Bridge Simulator. Attendees should include Licensed Master Mariners, Vessel Security Officers, and Licensed/Unlicensed Crew.
