Elimskip Chooses Star Information Systems to Improve Fleet Efficency
Following a lengthy evaluation of a broad range of fleet management software providers, Eimskip, Iceland’s oldest shipping company, has chosen Star Information Systems.
Under the terms of the agreement, Star Information Systems (SIS) will provide a fully integrated software package, including systems to manage maintenance, purchasing, work planning, guarantee claims, messaging, insurance policies and claims, budget and cost control, project, event, crew and document management.
According to SIS CCO, Martin Karlstad, the system will be installed on Eimskip’s fleet of 10 vessels and in the office in Iceland. “As a leading Icelandic provider of transport and logistics services active in the Atlantic basin, Eimskip now has the software to help support their growing business,” says Karlstad. “The fact that they chose SIS after a careful review of competing systems demonstrates the value of our offering.”
Niels Eyjólfsson, Eimskip’s Superintendent, notes that Eimskip’s previous software provider failed to offer adequate support, and the company was seeking a comprehensive and integrated solution. “Our primary interest was in SIS maintenance and purchasing systems and after an internal review and demonstration, we concluded Star Central Purchasing System and Star Maintenance fit our needs,” he says.
Eyjólfsson adds that based on in-house evaluations, the SIS software was intuitive and easy to use. “The SIS solution corresponds to our efforts to upgrade onboard IT systems, which is designed to improve our efficiency and lower costs related to administration, purchasing and planned maintenance,” he says.
SIS will provide training services and the software is scheduled to be implemented and fully operational by the end of September. “We look forward to working with Eimskip and will welcome their feedback at forthcoming user conferences,” says Karlstad.
