Elderly Couple Thrown off Cruise After Dinnertime Argument
A wealthy Manhattan couple was thrown off a cruise after a dinnertime argument with another passenger.
The luxurious Queen Mary 2 from England was on a 30-day, $20,000 cruise to Canada, England, and the Mediterranean in September, with Gloria Sher, 82 and her husband Fredrick Evans, 91, onboard.
The couple told CBS 2/1010 WINS, they were at dinner when a man at the table insulted them. Glora claims the man also discriminated against them, leading to a verbal confrontation.
The man told her to “shut up,” and then allegedly said, “Don’t you see that I’m talking? There are too many (expletive) Jews.” Gloria who is Jewish was upset and says she told the man, “You know what, you should go (expletive) yourself.”
The next day the couple was called to the commodore’s office, where 95-pound Gloria found out she had been accused of hitting someone.
The commodore told them they would have to leave the ship. The cruise line was going to drop the couple off in a remote area of Quebec, but other passengers onboard came to their defense and the couple was allowed to stay six more days, confined to their quarters, and depart in New York where the ship stopped before sailing on to England.
Cunard Lines, who owns and operates the ship, said in a statement that they fully support the commodore’s decision.
The couple is seeking a refund of their $20,000 fare and a public apology.
