Carnival Magic Crew Member Jumps Ship

A crew member from the Carnival cruise ship Magic was seen jumping overboard late this past Saturday into the Gulf of Mexico, just about 100 miles southeast of Galveston, Texas.

The crew member was later rescued, according to a Coast Guard statement. A rescue operation was initiated, but the worker was fished from the water before a rescue helicopter was launched. The crewman was also identified by wearing a life vest with a strobe light attached, which assisted significantly in the quick rescue by other crewmates.

The jumper was evaluated by the ship’s medical staff, but nothing has been released confirming if medical treatment was required or what prompted the jump. Cruise officials report that the crew member is in good condition, and was in the water for less than 45 minutes.

The Carnival Magic docked in Galveston on Sunday morning.
