Arms Found on Pakistan-Bound Ship
The MV AEGEAN GLORY, bound for Karachi, was stopped by security agencies on Friday at Diamond Harbour in India. The ship contained explosives, rocket launchers, anti-aircraft guns and bombs. The ship was returning from a UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia, where it is believed the weapons were used by Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Nepalese peacekeepers.
The red flag came when the pilot realized the MV Aegean Glory was a gearless ship and that it would have to be taken to the Kolkata Dock System. This is when it was discovered that the ship had not made a declaration. The customs agent failed to declare the nature of the cargo while filling out necessary customs documents with the Kolkata Port Trust. Police questioned the crew of the ship near Diamond Harbor in the Bay of Bengal, about 50 kilometers south of Calcutta. The UN mission in Liberia has confirmed the ships contents with the Indian Government.
