Authorities in the Port of Aden seized a cargo of weapons that originated from Turkey.
The Head of the Customs Authority told a Yemeni state news agency that over 3,500 automatic rifles were discovered in a container.
This is the second time this month that Yemeni authorities found a weapons shipment from Turkey.
Ankara claims it did not authorize the arms shipment, but were told by customs authorities at Turkey’s port of Mersin that the cargo contained household products and food items.
A similar occurrence took place in 2011 where customs authorities of the United Arab Emirates confiscated weapons bound for Yemen. It is still indefinite who had ordered the shipment.
