Ships Collide in Taiwan Strait

Taiwanese cargo ship, Jian Chang, collided with a Chinese bulker, Minguang 68, at the Xiamen-Kinmen waters on Sunday morning.

The Jian Chang was slightly damaged, but was able to sail to Keluo Harbour in Kinmen for repair. The 12 crewmembers of Minguang 68 abandoned the vessel which was severely damaged, and were rescued by the Fujian Maritime Salvage Centre, reports SinoShip News.

There were no causalities from the accident.

The cause of the collision is currently under investigation. The local coast guard attributed heavy fog as one of the causes of the accident, but confirmed that a thorough investigation would be carried out by the Maritime and Port Bureau.
