World's Largest and Most Advanced Offshore Marine Simulation Center Opens in Perth
December 9th the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg, opens the new Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre in Perth, Australia. The centre is the world's largest and most advanced offshore simulation centre for marine operations.
The opening of Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre is a milestone to Farstad Shipping. The centre is not only a major investment in our employees' skills and safety, but also a proof of the knowledge possessed by the Norwegian maritime industry, says Chief Executive Officer of Farstad Shipping, Karl-Johan Bakken.
Maritime cluster
The Simulation centre is a result of close interaction between multiple actors in the maritime cluster in the western part of Norway. Strong maritime traditions and a local culture of commitment to innovation, research and development has created the foundation for global efforts.
The offshore simulation centre in Australia is a result of the close collaboration between Aalesund University College, Farstad Shipping and the technology provider Offshore Simulator Centre (OSC) in Aalesund. Farstad Shipping aims to be a leading supplier of quality services with a considerate focus on safety, competence and technology, says Karl-Johan Bakken.
Developing skills of employees
The centre is crucial in achieving Farstad Shipping's goal of zero harm to people, environment and equipment. The unique training program will serve Farstad Shipping's commitment to develop and empower the employees. Team training, interaction and communication are important elements in the simulator training.
Safety and employee development constitute the basis for all our operations and activities. The purpose of Farstad Shipping Offshore Simulation Centre is to provide training facilities for our personnel and for testing offshore operations under critical and adverse conditions, says Karl-Johan Bakken who will attend the opening ceremony in Perth.
