MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) the global provider of communications, connectivity, and content services to remote locations around the world, announced today the appointment of Joseph R. Wright as Chairman of its Board of Directors.

Wright served as Chairman of Intelsat, the world’s leading provider of global satellite-based communications services from 2006 to 2008 and was president and CEO of PanAmSat, another satellite–based communications company focusing on broadcast and video distribution from 2001 to 2006.

He is currently a senior advisor to Providence Equity Partners and Chart Capital Partners and recently retired as CEO of Scientific Games Corporation. Wright also served as Chairman of GRC International, a provider of advanced information technology, Internet and software services to government and commercial customers.

“Joe is a true industry leader and a dedicated public servant. His reputation for excellence, success as a CEO in the communications industry, and background with high-level federal positions and on presidential advisory boards will bring experience, insight, and fresh perspective to our company and our customers,” said Jonathan Weintraub, CEO of MTN. “Joe will be instrumental in helping us grow our government business, build on our strength in communications for the cruise, yacht, commercial shipping and energy markets, and enter into the aviation market as the clear quality leader in the VSAT industry.”

Wright’s distinguished record of public service includes senior government positions, as well as numerous economic and scientific boards under Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Richard Nixon. He was most recently appointed by Secretary Gates as a member of the Defense Business Board. In addition, President George W. Bush assigned Wright to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and the President’s Commission on the United States Postal Service and President George H.W. Bush asked Wright to serve on the President’s Export Council. Under President Reagan, he served as Director and Deputy Director of the Federal Office of Management and Budget in the Executive Office of the President and as a member of the Cabinet, and previously as Deputy Secretary of Commerce; as a result he was awarded the Distinguished Citizens Award by President Reagan. Earlier, under President Nixon, he served in senior economic and management positions in the Department of Commerce and Agriculture.

“MTN has a strong record of providing the highest level of service for its customers in the global maritime VSAT industry and is already developing that excellent reputation with its government customers," said Wright. “It combines technical expertise with a sense of urgency to provide uninterrupted service for every customer on a global basis. I look forward to joining MTN to help expand its business in the government sector and to identify new market opportunities for future growth.”
