• Coast Guard Vessel Sinks at Mumbai Dock
An Indian Coast Guard vessel sank after a privately owned merchant ship rammed into it in the Mumbai Harbor Tuesday evening.
Around 6:30 p.m. in the commercial Indira Dockyard, the merchant vessel MV Global Purity collided with ICGS Vivek, causing a deep hole and cracks from the impact and tilted on one side and sank within an hour. The 59 crew on board were rescued or swam to safety.
ICGS Vivek was undergoing repairs and refit when the incident occured but the cause of the collision is still not clear. Coast Guard, defense and port authorities are conducting preliminary investigations.
