Grounded Ship at Juhu Beach to Undergo Salvage Operation
The MT Pavit that ran aground off the coast of Juhu Beach at the end of July has finally set plans for removal.
The Directorate General of Shipping confirmed the operations will be undertaken by salvers from Great Offshore Limited and Titan Salvage. The salvers have begun repairs on the Pavit before removal. The tentative schedule lines up the Pavit to have its generator fixed on Thursday in order to have a source of energy to tilt the ship 90 degrees, aligning it perpendicular to the ocean floor. This will leave it prepped for towing on Friday.
The General commented that as long as everything goes as planned the ship, which is tilted 7 degrees north, will be straightened and successfully removed. He added that the Merchant Tanker Pavit will be easier to salvage than the MV Wisdom since it is considerably lighter and easier to tow.
