The non-profit Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) comprised of individuals representing every aspect of shipping and international trade, presented nine $1,000 scholarships to area high school, college and graduate students during the association’s annual education awards luncheon, held at Giovanni’s restaurant in Darien, CT. The nine students who received the annual CMA scholarships attend: Massachusetts Maritime Academy (Buzzard’s Bay, MA); SUNY Maritime College (Throgs Neck, NY), USMMA (Kings Point, NY) as well as two CT high schools: The Sound School (New Haven, CT); Bridgeport Aquaculture School (Bridgeport, CT).

CMA president Beth Wilson-Jordan of PetroMar International Inc., Stamford, CT, and Steven Fitzgerald of Capital Navigators LLC, marine financial advisers, a member of the CMA education committee, presented each student with their award.

“The CMA Education Program provides a vital link between shore side maritime companies and maritime students,” noted Ms. Wilson-Jordan, CMA president. “We are proud to salute these exceptional students and to support them as they pursue their studies in the maritime world.” During her remarks, she called the students “the future of the maritime industry.” The Connecticut Maritime Association also supports a college internship program that provides an opportunity for CMA members to connect with promising young people and to introduce them to career opportunities in the maritime industry.
