American Maritime Safety, Inc., Announces Maritime Safety Award Recipients
Membership Event and Safety Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 7, 2010
On Wednesday, August 11, 2010, Louis Meltz, Esq., President of American Maritime Safety, Inc.(“AMS”) announced the names of three vessel operators that will receive Maritime Safety Awards at AMS’ Annual Membership Event and Safety Award Ceremony to be held at the Yale University Club in New York on Thursday, October 7, 2010.
The AMS Consortium presents three member companies with Maritime Safety Awards during the membership luncheon in recognition of the selected companies’ commitment to manage and operate vessels that are environmentally efficient, safe and dependable, as well as their efforts in promoting responsible maritime work practices.
For 2010, the AMS Safety Advisory Committee selected the following member organizations to receive safety awards.
The Interlake Steamship Company: Quality Ship Management Award.
Dann Marine Towing, LLC: Responsible Vessel Carrier Award.
Alaska Tanker Company: Safe Working Practices Award.
The AMS Safety Awards are given in recognition of these organizations’ commitment to implementing innovative quality control and safety management systems and crewmember training programs that serve to enhance the safe navigation and operation of vessels calling in US ports, and which go beyond the minimal environmental compliance standards established by the US Coast Guard and various State enforcement agencies.
“These three companies have demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting the marine environment, and have been proactive in implementing quality control programs that serve to improve marine safety and vessel operations” states Mr. Meltz. “We are pleased to recognize these reputable organizations for their efforts in working to protect our marine environment.”
The membership event this year will distinguish itself by its high level of content, as well as the participation of representatives from the US Coast Guard, the US Merchant Marine Academies and the National Transportation Safety Board.
“I am very pleased to report that international flag tanker operators will be participating in this industry event” stated Louis Meltz. “I am particularly excited to announce that representatives from the cruise ship industry will also be participating in this event.”
In addition to implementing safe working practices and comprehensive environmental policies, the three companies listed above will also be recognized for implementing crewmember training programs that help raise awareness of crewmember safety and environmental protection.
Last year AMS presented Maritime Safety Awards to the following companies:
General Maritime Management (Portugal), LDA; Quality Ship Management Award.
Andrie Inc. (Muskegon, Michigan); Responsible Vessel Carrier Award.
Reinauer Transportation (New York); Safe Working Practices Award.
The AMS Consortium has rapidly expanded in both its scope and reach since its founding in 1988, when it was established to facilitate the maritime industry’s compliance with US Coast Guard regulations and international marine safety protocols. From humble beginnings in New York, the AMS Consortium has grown to over 400 vessel owners and operators and is now recognized as the leading industry association for the deep-sea and Great Lake industries on regulatory compliance in the U.S. The first Maritime Safety Awards were presented to AMS member companies in 1990.
