In 2009, a crew of Somali pirates seized control of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama – the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years.

This real-life story has now been adapted into a film, directed by British director Paul Greengrass (the Bourne trilogy, United 93), and starring Tom Hanks as Captain Phillips, who was in charge of the US ship.

One of the pirates survived the Navy assault that took place during the rescue of the Maersk Alabama. This documentary tells the story of how a 16-year-old took part in the kidnapping of a giant cargo ship. An 8-minute trailer gives a glimpse into the whole story and that of Abdukhad Muse. The film is scheduled to be released on October 11, 2013. It is based upon the book, A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea, by Captain Richard Phillips with Stephan Talty.
