MarEx Mailbag: Reader Response to MarEx Editorials and Articles

Published Jan 11, 2011 3:49 PM by The Maritime Executive

MarEx readers weigh in on last week’s piece, entitled “Remembering the Good Old Days: and Keeping Our eyes on the Ball” and other past articles.

In last week’s edition of the MarEx e-newsletter, our lead editorial touched upon the global economy and how that is affecting the maritime sector. It also reminded executives to “keep their eyes on the ball” when it comes to making sure that efforts and initiatives to recruit, train and retain mariners – even in times like these – do not get lost in the shuffle. You can read last week’s editorial by clicking HERE. You can also see what our readers thought about this article:

Hi Joseph,

I entirely agree with your article of January 15th.

Like you I lived, worked and suffered in Maritime through the 80's and watch the industry lament the shortage of trained staff in the 90's.

I hope, having made some decent progress over the past two years, we don't make the same mistake again but continue to train and educate our seafarers in preparation for better economic times.

For our own part we continue to talk to Maritime Training and HR managers on a regular basis and will have an update as to attitudes and budgets by the end of this Q1.

I'll let you know a summary of our findings.

Keep up the excellent work.

Best Regards,

Paul Jolley

MarEx Editor’s Remarks: Mr. Jolley runs a team worldwide team of specialists in the areas of maritime ITC and MSS. We look forward to seeing his report on “Maritime Training and HR managers’ attitudes and budgets.” Thanks for weighing in, Paul.
